Bonjour
I hope that all is well with you and yours.
This week I’ve been channelling my inner Dr Doolittle! Charlie the rescue hedgehog thinks spring is on the way, he woke up one night, ate some food and went back to sleep again for the rest of the week – but it’s a start! When we found him, he was a skinny little hoglet, he was starving and cold so we took him in and he’s been living in a large box on the windowsill for nearly 4 months! He’s huge now and once the weather improves and we’re sure spring won’t bring any surprise snowfall, and he’s awake every night and eating well, we’ll release him into the wild after we show him where we feed all the other hedgehogs in the back garden.
This week Charlie has been joined on the windowsill by a dove. Yes, you did read that right. On Valentine’s Day, carrying out the decidedly unromantic task of cleaning out the chicken coops, I found a dove with an injured wing crawling around the pen. I put her in a cage with some food and water and she tucked in with enthusiasm and managed to hop in a lopsided way onto a perch we set up for her. She’s perked up considerably over the last few days but still can’t fly. I have a horrible feeling we may have a new permanent member of the family – welcome Doris the dove (here she is on Instagram).
And the big news is, I finished the draft of a new book called How to be French! Not a memoire this time (you can find all my books here janinemarsh.com), but a look at what it is to be French from fashion to food, language to love and more! The draft has gone off to my editor now and will be published in September!
So for me it’s time to go full steam ahead on the spring issue of The Good Life France Magazine – it’s nearly ready and looking absolutely stunning. And I’ll begin travelling around France again soon and I’m looking forward to sharing my travels with you – Paris, Burgundy, Marseille, Uzes, Champagne, Picardy, Provence, Cognac, Alsace and heaps more are on my list…
Meanwhile, I wish you a very bon weekend from my little wildlife corner of rural northern France, and I’ll be back with a fun newsletter next week…
Bisous,
Janine
